This morning I have been reading Lewis Hyde’s essay The Enclosure of Culture, which explores the flow of culture from private ownership to public property …and vice versa.

This has been a very illuminating read touching on the politics of Brithish land ownership, the musings of Samuel Johnson on the diffusion of knowledge for the benefit of human kind, and the concept of silence as a resource for common good.
