On impulse, we took my new listening device to North Berwick. I’ve often looked out from Arthur’s Seat towards Berwick Law, and have admired its conical symmetry that contrasts with the flat land surrounding it. It seemed the perfect point from which to begin my investigation: listening beyond the horizon.
What am I listening for? I’ll know when I hear it.
Perhaps I’m hoping to intercept prophecies as they travel around the curvature of the earth.
As one passer by commented wryly, I could be waiting a long time.
So far the only messages I might have picked up on have been drowned out by the blasting, freezing cold wind.
